SVOSH EYE EXAM

Step 1: Visual acuity, Pupils, and Angles

We take visual acuity so we can begin to estimate their prescription, check pupils to check for ocular pathology, and angles (shadow test) to see if it’s OK to dilate the patient.

Step 2: Administering Dilating Drops

Pic 2 By dilating pupil we can see larger portions of peripheral retina. Mydriatic/Cycloplegic drops used:
  • Under Age 15: 1% Tropicamide + 1% Cyclopentalate
  • Age 15 – 40: 1% Tropicamide
  • Over Age 40: 1% Tropicamide + 2.5% Phenylephrine

Step 3: Actual Exam
