SVOSH EYE EXAM
Step 1: Visual acuity, Pupils, and Angles
We take visual acuity so we can begin to estimate their prescription, check pupils to check for ocular pathology, and angles (shadow test) to see if its OK to dilate the patient.
Step 2: Administering Dilating Drops
By dilating pupil we can see larger portions of peripheral retina.
Mydriatic/Cycloplegic drops used:- Under Age 15: 1% Tropicamide + 1% Cyclopentalate
- Age 15 – 40: 1% Tropicamide
- Over Age 40: 1% Tropicamide + 2.5% Phenylephrine
Step 3: Actual Exam
- Retinoscopy
- Trial lens refraction
- Internal Exam with ophthalmoscope
- BIO and Pressures (only if reason to suspect pathology)
Step 4: Dispense Prescription
We provide patients with free glasses, sunglasses, and any necessary medications.
